The official The Boyz light stick was announced on March 20, 2021 on the official social media of the group. Additionally a special stream was broadcasted through the members' account on Naver's V Live. During the stream the members personally unboxed the collectible and showed it to the fans.
The pre-orders started three days later on March 23. The collectible was eventually released on March 25, 2021. After more than three years since the debut of the group, the fans finally received their fanlight. The Boyz debuted on December 6, 2017 with their mini album titled The First and the lead single Boy.
The light stick is the official piece of merchandise from Cre.ker Entertainment. It was manufactured by a South Korean company Copan Global, which is known for their goods prepared for many KPop groups and soloists. Its dimensions are 176.3 x 207.6 x 112.8 mm.
The item has an unusual shape - it looks like a megaphone. It consists of a black handle and a white, heart-shaped head, inside which you will spot the logo of The Boyz. On the handle's body you will spot the name of the group, and a button (you can hear a distinctive sound after you press the button to switch the item).
The collectible can operate in five different modes including on, blink, flicker, dimming and rotation. It can produce the light in two colors - white and red, but also practically all shades (a rainbow effect) when using the special rotation mode. It is equipped with a RGBW LED.
It requires - as many other light sticks - 3 AAA (preferably alkaline) batteries to work. You can unscrew the bottom part of the handle and put them in a hidden inside compartment.
The Boyz light stick is capable to work with a central control system at showcases, fanmeetings, concerts or other events. You can use a dedicated app available on the Internet to pair up your seat number with the stick, so the system can control it and create advanced and sophisticated light effects at the venue during the performances. Please notice that the normal mode becomes disabled when using the central control system. The app can be downloaded for both Android and iOS based devices (for example smartphones and tablets) through Google Play and App Store respectively. The app was created by XLAB Co., Ltd. It is available in four languages - English, Korean, Japanese and Simplified Chinese.
The item uses wireless Bluetooth connection (Bluetooth 5.0). The stated maximum operating range is 10 m. Additionally it can be connected to the online center through the Internet during a live concert, and be controlled remotely.
Beside the light stick inside the package you will find a black hand strap with the group's name printed in red, and a user manual containing some additional information on how to use the item. The strap will come handy when carrying the fanlight around during concert or other event. The battery case, strap and the instructions are packed in small box. All comes in a sturdy rectangular outer box. On the back side of the box you will spot a sticker of authenticity with the official Cre.ker and The Boyz logos. The sticker is a proof the product is genuine.
This was not the first time when The Boyz light stick has been released. During the group's debut showcase in 2018 a modest acrylic fanlight featuring the classic logo of the group was offered for purchase for the fans. The showcase promoted the mini album The First and took place at the Hall of Peace of Kyunghee University in Seoul on December 6, 2017. Three other collectibles were available at the venue - a wappen designed by Kevin, a black slogan and 12 different ballpens.
The second light stick showed up at their first anniversary celebration and a showcase titled One & Only. The event was held at Kyunghee University's Grand Peace Palace on November 29, 2018. This time the item featured a black handle and a transparent round flat head. It came with a black strap. The other merchandise prepared for the event were a set of 19 photo cards of a standard size of 55 x 85 mm, three different rolls of masking tape in a set, a keyring, and another wappen designed by Kevin.
The same fanlight was included in the collection for the first fan-con The Boyz, which was held over two days between January 26 and 27, 2019 at the Olympic Hall in Seoul. The dimensions of the item are 110 x 20 x 217 mm.
